Police and Crime Commissioner elections 2024

There are 39 Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) in England and Wales. The Police and Crime Commissioner Elections will be held on Thursday 2 May 2024 in Lancashire. They are elected to make sure the police are run properly.

They work with the police and other partners to cut crime and give the public a voice at the highest level. Your PCC will do this by:

being directly accountable to the scrutiny of the public
having the democratic mandate to respond to local people's concerns
setting local force's policing priorities and force budget
working with local partners to prevent crime
holding their Chief Constable to account for the performance of the force
appointing, and where necessary dismissing, the Chief Constable.

PCCs are elected to make sure that local police meet the needs of the community. You can contact your local PCC about:

how your area is policed
the police budget
the amount of council tax charged for the police
information you get about what the local police are doing

To vote in the Police & Crime Commissioner Election you must be registered to vote by Tuesday 16 April 2024 (Midnight)

The quickest way to vote is by going to the government website and apply online.

The Count will take place on Friday 3 May and the Lancashire results will be published on this page.

Voter ID

If you vote at the polling station, you will need to bring photo identification. More information about voter identification can be found at Voter ID at polling stations

Voting by Post

Voting by post is an easy and convenient way of voting if you are unable to get to the polling station.

The deadline for postal voting is Wednesday 17 April 2024, 5pm.

New rules mean your postal vote will be rejeted if it is not returned correctly

The easiest and most convenient way to return your postal vote is by posting it in a Royal Mail post box using the pre-paid envelope provided (envelope B)
Please allow sufficient time for your postal vote to reach us through the post. It must be received by the Returning Officer not later than 10pm on polling day
If you are hand delivering your completed postal vote, for example at a polling station or at the Electoral Services Office, you now need to complete a form. Our staff will help you with this
You may hand deliver your own and no more than 5 other postal votes per election
If you are a campaigner, you can only hand in your own postal vote, and those of close relatives or people for whom you provide regular care
Please DO NOT leave your postal vote in any Council Office post boxes, reception points or a polling station desk without completing a form

Voting by Proxy

If you cannot get to the polling station but do not want to vote by post you are able to apply to vote by proxy. This means that you would appoint someone you trust to vote on your behalf. The person you select will need to go to your polling station to cast your vote. If this is not convenient they can apply for a postal proxy.
